Used Car Recomendations?

in 2011, I plan on buying a used car. I would like it to be at least year model 2000 or newer. I have never purchased a car before. I am still driving the '92 Oldsmobile I was given by my parents on my 20th birthday ten years ago.

I am specifically looking for a 4-door sedan with a decent fuel/mileage ratio, that requires little upkeep and that has easily accessible and less expensive repair costs (so no Volkswagens.) I'd like to stay close to $5,000 KBB value.

Please share with me your experiences and knowledge to help point me in the right direction. Any models or makes you can recommend would be fabulous!|||2001 Nissan Maxima should be perfect. Bargain hard. It will last for 150,000 miles.|||Honestly.... if the oldsmobile runs well and drives well.... keep it. no sense trying to fix something that isnt broke.....

But, if you were going to buy a used car around 5000 bucks, i would tell you to go onto craigslist and see what is available first. hondas usually last forever but nowadays 16 year olds beat them into dust and they arent worth having unless you get it from a dealer who has inspected it and has the documents to prove its in good condition.|||I would stick with what you have. Theres a good chance is as good or better a car than you will get, even spending $5000.

I drive a 94 Buick Century. And I can afford ANY new car I wanted with cash.

I choose not to chase the deprecation that a new or newer car provides.

If you insist on getting something newer, go to the library and look at the used car consumer reports. They should have several suggestions for used cars in your price range. Look for those up to maybe $7500 because it can be up to a year old and, they often use the high end of valuations.|||Honda Civic|||A Subaru Legacy, AWD is great.
