Is this used-car without ABS worthy to buy?

I saw a Saturn SC2 2002, only 24,000 miles with an excellent condition, but without ABS. Is it really safety without ABS? especially, I heard about that in SD, it will be much snow in winter, Furthermore, according to KBB, it is $8990 for a suggested retailed value, but the dealer consisted $8400, Would you please give me a suggestion? Is this used-car without ABS worthy to buy?
This is more of a two part question, the first question being do you need ABS. The way I look at it is that ABS has only been widely used on cars for about the past ten years or so. Before that it was either an expensive option or not available for most models. People got around just fine before that, BUT It does snow a LOT in SD, wheel lockup while driving in the snow is pretty much an "everytime you stop" occurance and unless you're used to driving on slippery surfaces and pumping the brakes quickly to stop then I would reccomend it. If you're lliving in a place where it doesn't snow a lot I'd say it's not a necessity. The other question you're asking is if a Saturn SC2 is a decent car. They don't hold their value well, but I know people who swear by them, it's more a matter of personal taste and preference. Definitely don't pay more than the KBB or NADA value for it.
I had a friend who lived in Sioux Falls, SD for nearly 10 years. It rains ICE over there. 9 months of horrible winter and 3 months of HOT/HUMID summer. Black Ice is common. Literally cannot stop to turn, just keep going until you come to a stop! If you live in SD, you MUST have something with an all wheel drive or a 4x4 then have the saturn as a second car. And no, not having ABS should not deter you from purchasing the car. But in any case, abs or not, I would not have that as a primary car, I mean sometimes you can't go to the grocery store for days if you live out in the country and dont have an suv or all wheel drive car.Is this used-car without ABS worthy to buy?
ABS is fore people that don't know how to operate machinery!

True braking is for those that know what is what! True breaking is best! Only if you know how!

I disconnect my sensor's for fear that it will make me crash since I yous my break the right way!!!

ABS Slows and make traction!

Static breaking will stop faster than ABS!!

Remember the greenhouse effect and traffic jams. If you are still crazy about cars and do want to be like all the humans, like all the silly blind people, by a car with a motor which does not waste CO2 into air. It may be electric motor of H2 motor, or something. Look the amusing news of the 21th century below. Is this used-car without ABS worthy to buy?
Saturns are very light and have wide tires for their weight, so they aren't very good in the snow. You might do better if you use snow tires in the winter or get some good all-seasons. It depends what you expect to drive in, how you drive, skill, etc. ABS or not doesn't make a ton of difference sometimes. It's completely possible to lose steering control with it, just as without it. With only 24,000 that should still be running very nice, though. Great gas mileage too. If you buy it, you should check out saturnfans.com.
I know of law enforcement people who hate ABS.

ABS is about stopping, and for some of us who know how to use the brakes in a car and want to lock them up, ABS is a liability.

However, the insurance companies like them.

So see how much of a discount you are loosing, and think about how well you know how to drive.

Then make your choice.

The car is not so much the issue as how comfortable are you in the car.
