What do u think about buying this used car?

We're thinking of buying this 99 land rover discovery with a blown head gasket to re-sell for $900. KBB value is $3500. A head gasket costs $3100 in to fix but less then $200 in parts, the rest is labor. My husband is a mechanic... does it sound like a good project? Im sure my husband is going to do it either way but I just wanted to hear some other opinions on how well u think it will re-sell. We live in mobile, AL btw. thanks!|||I say go for it. I like fixing cars and selling them for a profit as well. A Land Rover is an easy sell. You'll be into for $1100 to $1300 when it's fixed. You should be able to sell it without a problem, depending on what you ask for it. If you through a $2500 price tag on it and take no less than $2300 you make a great profit and it should sell quick. You can go for more but may take more time to sell. Around here where I live Cadillacs are the easy money. I also have done well with Buick's. Good luck!!!|||If your husband is a real mechanic, as in his job, I say do it, if he's a hobby mechanic, don't.

Blown head gaskets can be hard. The things you need to take off, then replace, can take hours, and most important, when the head gasket blows, it's always a good idea to have the head planed, especially if it's aluminum. The warp easy. If your hubby has access to the tools and equipment, it's nothing for him to do, but if not, it could take him weeks, pulling the head, then having it ether tested or planed, or both, then putting it all back together, and timing it, it's not a job for the enthusiast.

Selling can take a while, especially in a slumped economy, with high gas prices. It all depends on where you are too. Craigslist is a good place to list it. I would definetly look at cars for sale in your area, especially suv's, watch them, see how long it takes for them to sell.|||As SUV's are not selling well right now, I would suggest finding a different project. It would be time and money wasted. There are probably other problems with the vehicle besides the obvious. |||Assuming the values and figures you quoted along with the ability of your husband to do the work himself I think it's a no brainer. How could he go wrong?
