Car Values... Why is there a difference between KBB and NADA?

Why is there a significant price difference between car values on kelly blue book and NADA? Which one do dealers use? Should I insist they use one and not the other? It appears that NADA has higher values on cars.Car Values... Why is there a difference between KBB and NADA?
Kelly Blue Book is in the back pocket of dealers. It is not reliable. Many private sellers quote KBB because it makes their price look good.

Make sure that you get the right NADA book. You want the one for dealers, not their consumer edition. The NADA dealer's book is often better because it is trying to give dealers a more honest view of what is going on in the market for particular cars.

The pricing I find most reliable, and it is not 100% so, is the "True Market Value" pricing on Edmunds.com. They are the one I use most often.

Checking sites like cars.com can also help introduce a little honesty into this pricing game.

If you are looking at high-end used cars, the asking price by dealers and the prices quoted in KBB can be high by as much as $2,000 - 3000. And an asking price that is $1000 higher than what the dealer will take is quite common.

Pricing is a confusing business, especially among dealers. The best tactic is to be able to wait and watch the market for a long time. You'll eventually see some cars that are fairly priced.

Have you thought about using a broker to investigate pricing on your behalf?Car Values... Why is there a difference between KBB and NADA?
car dealers use whatever one they like. the difference is just because the numbers are subjective. the car is only worth what someone will pay you for itCar Values... Why is there a difference between KBB and NADA?
their is a price for everyone that way. the dealer can give you a low number for your trade and show you a high retail on a used vehicle. each one takes in a different set of values to get their prove, such as depreciation for miles, rarity and condition.
