Alright, I have a 1997 Mercury Cougar with 122,000 miles on it. It has a broken coil spring on the passenger side, and the struts are leaking. My mechanic says that the two lower ball joints should also be replaced. The repairs would set me back $1200. My mechanic said he knows someone who would buy my car for $375...I looked up the KBB trade-in value which was $720.|||just about any car is worth five hundred as long as it has motor and tranny. i would try and get five hundred out of it. I work in a autobody shop and we sell cars for $400 all the time that are completely totaled and can't be driven.|||Grab the $375 !!! With that mileage and needed repairs, it's a gift! Deduct the $720. value from the $1200. repairs...now what do you have? (using your figures).|||bluebook.com
or most banks have a blue book and you can look it up|||Spend the 1200.00 on a different car... sell yours for what you can get....|||kbb.com Bluebook values:

|||There are a bunch of places to check car prices on the Internet. NADA guides is one - but since they are owned by the car dealers association I never recommend them. KBB is another. Driverside.com is a new site and they have a couple of extras - great data showing price based on mileage; DriverSide Estimate where they search actual listings to find what cars are actually selling for in local markets; and estimates for trade in pricing.
